Constance Bay one of three picked for sustainability project

Constance Bay residents have long had a reputation of supporting projects beneficial to the environment.

So it's no surprise Constance Bay has been selected for the Sustain Your Community project, one of three initial neighbourhoods selected in Ottawa.

EnviroCentre's project calls on residents of the three selected communities to make positive change right where they live on issues related to energy and water conservation, local food and transportation. Beaverbrook and Lowertown are the other two Ottawa communities taking part.

Students question need for plastic bags

We use plastic bags every day; everyone will say it's common. But did you know that plastic bags need a long, long time to disappear? Did you know they could be the NO.1 waste product in landfill? Using plastic bags are a big problem. Most of all, I think Canada should ban plastic bags and I will tell you why.

For my first reason why we should ban plastic bags, it's because underwater life look at the plastic bags and think it's a prey like a fish or a jelly fish. Then they eat the plastic bags. If they are lucky, they will still live... But, they will have high levels of plastic in their blood. If the sea animals are out of luck, they will eat the plastic bags, choke on the plastic bag, then die. See, it is all our problem, if we never invented plastic bags, the sea creatures will never die because of eating plastic bags.

Ottawa Farmers' Market back at Lansdowne for holiday season

Starting on Nov. 30, the Ottawa Farmers' Market vendors will be coming home.

After three years in exile during the redevelopment of Lansdowne Park, the market will return to the Aberdeen Pavilion this holiday season with its annual Christmas Market.

"We are pretty excited," said Tara Simpson, spokeswoman for the market.

Overbrook residents get chance to chat with city staff about LRT Thursday night

Residents of Overbrook will be able to chat with City of Ottawa staff members about Light Rail Transit at an open house at the Overbrook Community Centre on Thursday night. Gatineau approves Domtar redevelopment
