Ottawa bike corral parking pilot starts this month

A new on-street bicycle parking pilot project is starting in the Glebe and Wellington West neighbourhoods, where a total of three vehicle parking spots will be taken over by corrals for up to 12 bikes each. Highlights of the Liberal platform

Liberal Leader Kathleen Wynne chose to release her party’s platform in Thunder Bay on Sunday in an apparent attempt to woo northern voters. The Liberals have the least surprising platform of the four major provincial parties because their plan is based on the 2014 draft budget released early this month. Indeed, the platform document pointedly states there are “no additional costs” in the Liberals’ election plan that “are not fully accounted for in the 2014 budget.”

Spending it

Confirmed a $29-billion transit plan for the next decade, with $14 billion to be spent outside the Toronto area. Platform specifically mentions “next phase” of “Ottawa LRT.”

Cyclist ‘Super Mario’ Théoret honoured in Share the Road ride

The Share the Road Cycling Coalition, SRCC an Ontario-based non-profit organization that promotes cycling as a mode of transportation and recreation through municipal and provincial advocacy, is partnering with Trips for Kids Ottawa to host a community bike ride in memory of ‘Super Mario’ Mario Théoret. Théoret was a local cyclist who died in a collision with a truck while cycling on Hunt Club at Merivale Road in October 2013. Ottawa weather office: Watch for locally heavy downpours, thundershowers

A special weather statement has been issued by Environment Canada for parts of Eastern Ontario and Gatineau warning that a band of showers and isolated thunderstorms will move through the region today bringing heavy downpours.
