The City Councillor for Kitchissippi Ward says free parking in Westboro could become a thing of the past.

Writing on the Kitchissippi ward website, Councillor Jeff Leiper says the area has become too congested, with cars circling the block repeatedly looking for spaces, a problem he says also wastes time, creates more pollution, and decreases pedestrian and cyclist safety.

Funding is finally in place to help the city move forward with its project to clean up the Ottawa River.

During a photo-op Tuesday afternoon, the federal government announced it would match the up to $62.09-million in funding promised by the provincial government for the Ottawa River Action Plan.

Representatives from all three levels of government were present at the photo-op, held at the Robert O. Pickard Environmental Centre in Gloucester. There were smiles and handshakes all around as the politicians thanked one another for their contributions.

Ottawa residents aren't using enough water.

A report for the Finance and Economic Development Committee shows water and sewer operations posted an $18.8 million budget deficit last year.

Staff say revenues were lower than budget due to the continued reduction in water consumption.
