What seemed like the entire population of Carlsbad Springs came out to a public consultation last night to protest a proposed landfill and recycling facility planned for their community.

The fight is highlighting the need for action from the province.

Taggart-Miller is proposing a 400 acre facility they said would see 40-50 per cent diversion to recycling of the 450,000 tonnes of institutional, commercial and industrial waste.

The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority is set to revitalize the Brewer Park Pond.

Jennifer Lamoureux, with the RVCA told CFRA the goal is to link it back up with the Rideau River.

"We're looking to reconnect it with a culvert so that we can maintain the pathway around for the community to continue to walk around the pond and then we're looking to put in some habitat features within the pond itself," she said. "We're actually targeting Muskie and Northern Pike and the other 45 fish within the Rideau River to improve and enhance the fish habitat within the pond itself and adjacent to the river."
