Unseasonably low temperatures and drizzling rain may not make for the most refreshing swim, but even if Ottawa residents felt the urge to take a dip in the river Thursday their options would be few.

Because of the rain, the city issued a no-swim advisory Thursday morning for every beach except Britannia. City staff are expected to be on site encouraging any persevering swimmers to keep to the damp sand.

After hearing the result of the city’s audit into the Orgaworld contract, a caller to my CFRA radio show asked a very interesting question: If the auditor-general could identify all that was wrong with the agreement after it was already in place, why couldn’t he look at it before it was signed? Wouldn’t that have saved us the trouble and cost of going ahead with the deal and then learning later that it was flawed and wasteful? There’s a familiar pattern to reports from auditors-general. The auditors identify a problem after the fact and politicians try to look contrite and accountable by promising never to let it happen again. Ontario has seen its first possible case of the West Nile Virus and although it was in the Muskoka area, health officials here say Ottawa isn't immune to the virus.

Officials with Ottawa Public Health say we've been lucky so far this year.

"There has been a higher number of mosquitoes in general, just because the late spring season, but as far as the genus that produces, or is the predominant carrier of West Nile Virus, we haven't seen a huge increase," Craig Calder with OPH told CFRA.

Frustrated O-Train users bemoaned a second straight day of train delays between the Bayview and Carleton stops Tuesday. OC Transpo confirmed signalling errors were the culprit Tuesday morning, making it the third delay in less than 24 hours after riders reported train issues Monday morning and afternoon, both during busy commutes to and from work. Orgaworld seeks review of arbitrator’s decision in city’s favour

Orgaworld is challenging an arbitrator’s decision in favour of the City of Ottawa in its years-long dispute with the organic waste company. The commercial arbitrator last month dismissed the company’s $1.3-million claim against the city.
