At least one council candidate has suggested Ottawa adopt a green roof policy.
That might sound familiar and not just because the idea is based on Toronto’s bylaw that requires green roofs, which have environmental benefits including reducing energy consumption, on new developments of a certain size.

The city’s “Phase 2″ plan to extend light rail in all directions makes good transportation sense but at $3 billion, it’s much too expensive and relies on funding from the federal and provincial government we might not get, Maguire says. Add increasing electricity costs and following through on Phase 2 would mean “economic devastation,” in his view.

The provincial environment minister is being instructed by the premier to develop new strategies for diverting waste and Ottawa city councillors hope that includes stricter waste targets enforced by the province.
All ministers received letters from Premier Kathleen Wynne outlining key duties."We really need to do something about the elephant in the room and that's IC&I waste - industrial, commercial and institutional waste," said veteran councillor Peter Hume.

Ontario Provincial Police are investigating after 55 solar panels were damaged at a solar farm south of Perth,
Ont.Police said the damage happened on Sept. 7 at a solar farm on Narrows Lock Road in Tay Valley Township, about 100 kilometres southwest of Ottawa.
