As thousands of people protest soaring hydro rates across the province, several hundred demonstrators gathered to rally outside Energy Minister Bob Chiarelli's Carling Avenue constituency office on Friday afternoon.

They waved signs reading "HEAT OR EAT" in front of honking cars, calling for drastic changes because they can't afford to pay their bills.

Via Rail officials announced late Friday afternoon that there will now be staff posted near the Fallowfield station 24/7 to monitor the rail signals and make any necessary repairs.

The move comes hours after yet another incident of the signals at the Fallowfield crossing malfunctioning. Drivers reported that, after a train passed, the safety arms moved up, but the signals remained flashing, causing major traffic tie-ups.

Members of the Albert/Scott Thrown Under the Bus Working Group gathered at the Lebreton Transitway Station Wednesday morning to count buses and the number of transfers.

It's part of a bid to convince the city that there are alternatives to its plan to divert 2,500 buses per day along Scott Street during LRT construction.
