OTTAWA — A short but nasty thunderstorm may have paused over the Ottawa-Gatineau area Sunday night, but the heavy rainfall that had earlier been predicted for the region over the next few days appears unlikely.
Early Sunday, Environment Canada maintained a rainfall advisory for much of the region, but particularly for Renfrew, Petawawa, Calabogie and other areas west and north of Ottawa. These communities were warned they could receive between 25 and 50 millimetres of rain from Sunday into Monday — a range that at the time was thought likely for Ottawa, as well.

OTTAWA — Having given up on expert advice to raise taxes to pay for major transportation projects, the provincial government is punting even its second-best plan at least into 2015.
That’s not the way Finance Minister Charles Sousa described it in a Friday speech. He talked about naming a high-powered task force “dedicated to optimizing assets,” to squeeze Crown corporations for every dollar, selling things the province no longer needs to own and trying to make what remains more efficient.
