As election signs begin to pop up in neighbourhoods across the city, so do opportunities to meet the candidates running in Ottawa's east end.
There will be a Rideau-Rockcliffe Ward all-candidates meet and greet and debate scheduled at the main hall in the Overbrook Community Centre on Sept. 11.

Community associations in the Rideau-Vanier Ward have organized a topic-specific debate at the Guiges Centre on Sept. 15.Organized by the Lowertown Community Association, with participation from Action Sandy Hill and the Vanier Community Association, Citizens for Safe Cycling, Walk Ottawa, Ecology Ottawa and the Vanier Community Service Centre, the debate will focus on the future of transportation in Lowertown, Vanier, Sandy Hill and the Byward Market.

If the Energy East pipeline project is approved, 1.1 million barrels of crude oil and tar sands bitumen will cross the Rideau River each day. The proposed 4,600 km pipeline would provide a new conduit for oil sands producers in Alberta and Saskatchewan, connecting them to export terminals on Canada’s East coast. The pipeline has yet to be reviewed by the National Energy Board.
Residents will have a chance to hear more and voice their concerns at an information session being held on Thursday, September 11, by Ecology Ottawa, a local environmental group.

City councillors are giving more of taxpayer's money to groups who are fighting a proposed landfill in Carlsbad Springs.
Many residents are fiercely opposed to the proposal by Taggart Miller Environmental Services and they're getting an extra $25,000 to try and halt it.
