OTTAWA — The wildlife invasion of the capital continued Sunday with reports of a deer loose in the ByWard Market and King Edward Avenue area.
“The animal’s actions are unpredictable and may constitute a traffic hazard,” Ottawa police warned in a statement at 7:45 p.m. “Please be extra vigilante while driving in this area.”

OTTAWA — A wild turkey and an unidentified piglike creature were separately spotted on the lam this week, puzzling residents in Ottawa and the Outaouais.In the turkey case, residents and a restaurateur spotted a bird Thursday in Ottawa’s Wellington West neighbourhood.
There have been turkey sightings since the weekend and at least one resident believes there are actually two turkeys, a male and female pair, residing in the neighbourhood.

new link is on the way for cyclists to get between the Albert Street pathway and the Laurier Avenue segregated bike lanes.
The City and the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board have proposed a temporary pathway that runs through the school board grounds bounded by Slater Street, Laurier and Bronson Avenue.

OTTAWA — Katherine Hobbs wants the city to pay the entire cost of cleaning up a contaminated site in Wellington Village so that a developer can finally build something on the property.
In a motion to the finance committee, the Kitchissippi councillor is asking for a special exemption for 1445 and 1451 Wellington St. W., under the city’s brownfields policy, to cover the full cost of rehabilitating the land.

A plan has been in the works for months to divert hundreds of buses onto Scott Street during LRT construction in the Capital.
Residents of Hintonburg have been asking the city to find alternative routes for the buses.
Now, frustrated by the long wait for a report on the impact on neighbourhood safety, the Hintonburg Community Association conducted its own safety audit Thursday night.

The City of Gatineau has started spraying for mosquitoes.
Low-flying helicopters will be spraying in the Carrefour-de-l'Hôpital, Versant, Bellevue, Lac-Beauchamp and Rivière-Blanche areas in order to reduce the presence of the pest.
The City says the product used is not harmful to your health or to the environment.

In what the Liberal government is calling a move to make Ontario more competitive for industry and manufacturing, Energy Minister Bob Chiarelli announced proposed changes to two existing programs.
The changes hinge on the Liberal budget being approved May 1.
