A minor earthquake near Pembroke on Tuesday evening was heard but not seen by some residents, and felt as far away as Killaloe and Barry’s Bay.
The quake was registered on the Natural Resources Canada website as having a magnitude of 3.6 and was centred seven kilometres west southwest of Pembroke.

Orleans is red once again. Liberal candidate Andrew Leslie unseated Conservative incumbent Royal Galipeau in the riding by a large margin when votes when ballots were counted Monday evening.
The race is Ottawa’s eastern most riding was expected to be close, with both federal parties counting on a victory.

Anti-Conservative non-profit Leadnow worked with “Vote Smart Orleans 2015” and Ecology Ottawa to encourage strategic voting. They conducted calling campaigns to encourage would-be-NDP voters to “vote smart” and place a ballot for the Liberals in order to defeat Galipeau.

In this final weekend of campaigning, proponents of strategic voting across Canada are out in full force in a last attempt to keep Stephen Harper and his fellow Conservatives out of power.
Anirt Rojo, a volunteer with Nepean Leadnow Group, is one Ottawa resident eager to keep her local Conservative candidate, Andy Wang, from winning the riding. This weekend, she will be helping with canvassing and talking to people in her area about strategic voting — the practice of voting not in the way most likely to get someone you support elected, but in the way most likely to get someone you don’t defeated.

It may not be the issue that decides the riding, but there is debate in Ottawa Centre, as vote draws near, over the future of the Rideau Canal.The riding's federal candidates are deeply divided on their ideas for managing the canal.
Conservative candidate Damian Konstantinakos emphasizes the need to balance promoting of tourism along the canal with efforts to preserve the waterway and its surrounding areas.

The issue of pipelines has been neglected by the political parties during the election. The position of each is known from previous statements and actions: The Conservatives wholeheartedly support the construction of pipelines to get bitumen to market.

A new poll in Kanata-Carleton shows the Liberals ahead of the Conservatives by 11 points.
The poll, conducted by Environics Research and commissioned by Leadnow and Ecology Ottawa, shows Liberal candidate Karen McCrimmon in the lead with 50 per cent, followed by Conservative candidate Walter Pamic with 39 per cent.

TORONTO - Electricity rates are going up again in Ontario starting November 1.The Ontario Energy Board says the peak price for electricity, between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., will rise by 1.4 cents to 17.5 cents a kilowatt hour.
The mid-peak price from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. will rise by 0.6 cents to 12.8 cents a kw/h.
And the off-peak rate from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. and all day weekends and holidays jumps 0.3 cents to 8.3 cents a kwh, less than half the on-peak price.

Rusty beams on the Transitway bridge over the Rideau River are forcing the city to shut down a key section of the busway between Lees and Hurdman stations months ahead of schedule.
That section of Transitway wasn’t supposed to close until April 2016 as part of Confederation LRT line construction, but it’s now scheduled to close Dec. 20, forcing hundreds of buses to detour onto nearby streets.

The Conservatives had won both ridings with less than 50 per cent of the vote, so groups like Ecology Ottawa and Vote Smart Orleans encouraged electors to consider pooling Liberal, NDP and Green Party votes to defeat the Tory candidate.
Throughout the campaign Ecology Ottawa has been working with Leadnow, a national anti-Conservative organization, to raise money to encourage voters to back the candidate most likely to beat the Conservative.

Incumbent Conservative candidate Royal Galipeau could be in for the race of his political career in the riding of Orleans, according to CBC poll analyst Eric Grenier. The riding had been a Liberal stronghold when Galipeau won it in 2006.

The national anti-Conservative non-profit organization Leadnow is working with local community groups "Vote Smart Orleans 2015" as well as Ecology Ottawa to commission local polls in several Conservative Ottawa ridings, including Orleans.
Ecology Ottawa volunteers began a "phone-blitz" campaign to reach out to residents last week to ask them to consider voting strategically to defeat the incumbent Conservative.
Graham Saul, spokesperson with Ecology Ottawa, said the polls help strategic voters understand which non-Conservative party is most likely to beat the Conservative candidate.

Discarded needles poke through garbage bags and prick waste collectors one to two times per year, on average, according to Ottawa city staffers. Truck fires and chemical backsplashes also put garbage pickup workers at risk. To handle the illegal and hazardous waste, the city is looking at allowing employees to sift through private garbage bags if they suspect anyone has tossed something harmful.
• The city will need to shell out about $3 million to retrofit public buildings with devices that will prevent backflow from seeping into drinking water. More than 13,000 property owners will also need to pay between $500 and $20,000 in building upgrades.

Ontario will allow testing of self-driving cars on provincial roads starting in January 2016.
“Ontario will lead Canada as the first province to allow the testing of automated vehicles and related technologies on our roads,” said Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca at an announcement in Waterloo on Tuesday.
The government says the pilot project will allow companies to conduct research and development in Ontario, and help bring automated vehicles to market.
