Deachman: At the Lansdowne 2.0 forum, one voice stood out — in favour of the proposal

By Bruce Deachman, Ottawa Citizen, October 12, 2023

I was surprised when a young man who identified himself as Patrick stepped up to the microphone at Wednesday night’s public forum on the Lansdowne 2.0 proposal and spoke in favour of the additional housing planned for the site.

Judging by the 26 speakers before him, his view was not widely held by many in the room.

...“If you don’t want towers,” he added, “then I would suggest ending exclusionary zoning city-wide and allowing for small apartments on every single lot in the city. Until then, we need to build density, and we need to build it in nodes. Every time we try to build in this city, someone says we need intensification where it makes sense, and thus nothing gets built.”
