A wild winter, by the numbers

By Matthew Pearson, Ottawa Citizen, April 7, 2014

OTTAWA — While it may seem like the winter of 2013-14 was one dreary storm after another, the city’s snowplows actually had less snow to deal with than last winter — and nearly 200 centimetres less snow than in the winter of 2007-08.

CTV Ottawa News

By CTV News Ottawa, April 4, 2014

It looks like something out of science fiction, a mechanical monster feasting on winter’s icy remains. It is the Eco Technologies icebreaker, a floating excavator that looks like a flat-bottomed barge with a large boom shovel looming off one end. Two stabilizing arms with round pontoons stick out on either side of the excavator, giving the machine a giant crab or spider-like appearance. via Breaking the ice on the Rideau River | CTV Ottawa News.
