A wild winter, by the numbers

OTTAWA — While it may seem like the winter of 2013-14 was one dreary storm after another, the city’s snowplows actually had less snow to deal with than last winter — and nearly 200 centimetres less snow than in the winter of 2007-08.
But as the following numbers suggest, the past winter still kept the roads services department busy.

Ottawa police have closed Anderson Road in southeast Ottawa due to a sinkhole.
The road has been shut down between Renaud and Ridge roads, with detours in place.

Boil water advisory in effect for Hull sector

OTTAWA — The entire Hull sector of Gatineau was placed under a boil water advisory Friday night from 8:30 p.m. until further notice, due to work being done on the Hull sector water treatment plant.
Until the advisory is lifted, affected residents must boil their water for one minute before consuming it, the city of Gatineau said in a release.

CBC videographer Waubgeshig Rice was gathering visuals on April 2 of Manotick in advance of Ottawa Morning's Hallie in the Hood on-location broadcast on April 4 when his camera picked up something he himself didn't notice: the flash of a meteor.
Ottawa Morning will be live April 4 from Manotick starting at 5:30 a.m. and we'll be live streaming it here.
"I needed footage of the Minto 'Mahogany' development to show how Manotick is expanding, while trying to maintain the traditional feel of a village," Rice explains. He continues:

As thousands of people protest soaring hydro rates across the province, several hundred demonstrators gathered to rally outside Energy Minister Bob Chiarelli's Carling Avenue constituency office on Friday afternoon.
They waved signs reading "HEAT OR EAT" in front of honking cars, calling for drastic changes because they can't afford to pay their bills.
