Newly-minted Environment Minister Catherine McKenna will soon leave for Paris to prepare for a critical United Nations meeting on climate change.

Two weeks removed from capturing Ottawa Centre in a major election-night upset, McKenna, 44, continued her meteoric political career Wednesday when she was named to the inaugural Liberal cabinet of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Cyclists without lights on their bicycles were stopped by an Ottawa Police officer at the Corktown Bridge on Tuesday afternoon, as part of a cycling safety event.

Const. Paul Cahill worked alongside members of Citizens for Safe Cycling and Safer Roads Ottawa, handing out free reflectors and lights to people peddling along the Rideau Canal."The goal here is to make sure that those people who are chosing to cycle are safe doing so, " said Felicity Borgal, the director of Citizens for Safe Cycling.
