It's too early to say if we'll have a green Christmas this year, but you can expect slightly higher temperatures into the winter.
Peter Kimbell with Environment Canada told Newstalk 580 CFRA that November has been warmer than usual this year.
"We're having a mean temperature so far for the first couple weeks of november of ... 6.9 degrees ... that's about 5 degrees above the average for the month. It's definitely been warmer than usual," he said.

People will soon be free to see Chaudière Falls, even if the falls won’t be freed.
The distinction represents the difference between the installation of three new, publicly-accessible viewing platforms — as part of a massive construction project now underway — and the complete removal of a ring dam that has been in place for more than a hundred years.
Activists want the dam gone completely in order to restore a sacred First Nations meeting site and allow fish and other aquatic life to travel freely and thrive.

Ottawa cyclists will now have an easier time getting from Albert Street to the Laurier Avenue bike lanes.
On Friday, the city unveiled a new stretch of its east-west bikeway project, one that connects the Laurier lanes with the existing multi-use pathway on Albert Street.
Cyclists now have access to a raised 1.5-metre-wide bike path on the north side of Laurier between Bronson Avenue and Percy Street, the city said.

Glen Murray has been thinking a lot about where his broccoli comes from. Ontario's minister of the environment and climate change said he's becoming increasingly concerned about food security and the extent to which Ontarians rely on California for vegetables and fruit, especially in the dead of winter.
"Prior to the California drought it was not on my radar screen," Murray said.

The Central Experimental Farm is such a beloved institution in Ottawa that volunteers contribute 10,000 hours every year helping to keep its public areas clean and beautiful. Friends of the Farm describes itself as a “charitable organization of committed volunteers and supportive members who care about the Farm in Ottawa.
”Where were these committed volunteers when they learned last year that a 60-acre chunk of the national historic site, founded in 1886 by Sir John A. Macdonald, would be severed to make way for a new hospital? They were blindsided by the announcement and later, according to some members, they were muzzled from expressing concern — even threatened by the federal government with disbandment and an end of cooperation if the group openly criticized the plan.

When architect Douglas Cardinal designed the Canadian Museum of History three decades ago, he envisioned a highrise community that would someday become an extension of the tourist destination.
Now Cardinal may be able to realize that dream, having been commissioned to help redesign Brigil’s ambitious mixed-use condo hotel Place-des-Peuples, along with Neuf architects, that will link to the museum underground and transform the community into a hub for residents and the million-plus visitors the museum draws each year.

Barrhaven Coun. Jan Harder said she isn't going to stand around and let people continue to dump piles of trash on city-owned property.
"If we go in there (the garbage) and find a name, I'm going after them," she said.
Harder was tipped off by a resident on Saturday about a pile of what appears to be discarded building materials on a Jockvale Rd. property. The pile in question stands more than a metre high and is composed largely of plywood and other scrap. Nearby is other assorted trash, strewn about the property within eyeshot of the Bruce MacNabb bridge, which stretches over the Jock River in the south-end community.

OC Transpo wants to bill organizers of the biggest events in Ottawa thousands of dollars for extra bus service, and it's admitting the charges could trickle down to ticketholders.
The revenue projections are plugged into the draft 2016 transit budget, which was tabled Thursday during a transit commission meeting.

A staff report last month suggested the gap could be covered in a number of ways, including:

Emergency crews have managed to contain a spill after fuel leaked from a transport truck into an east Ottawa creek Thursday afternoon.
Shortly after 2 p.m., Ottawa Fire Services received a call that the truck was leaking fuel at 1419 Innes Road, near the Blackburn Hamlet Bypass.
Upon arriving at the scene, crews confirmed that fuel had leaked into nearby Green's Creek, the fire department said.
