The entire length of the Rideau Canal Skateway is open for the first time this season.
The ice from Bank Street to Bronson Avenue opened at noon Friday. That stretch previously remained closed because it was too thin, according to the National Capital Commission..

David Chernushenko will turn council’s mind to climate “protection” next week with a slate of proposals aimed at reducing greenhouse gases in the city, but another councillor worries about managing public expectations.
Chernushenko, council’s environment chair and councillor for Capital ward, is also recommending a symbolic gesture within the political machinery of city hall: Changing the name of the environment committee to “environment and climate protection” committee.

A major section of the Transitway some University of Ottawa students rely on will close April 24, even though exams at the school run until April 27.
OC Transpo head John ManconiJohn Manconi, the general manager of transit services, said the city is working closely with the school to help students and faculty adjust to the coming changes.
During a technical briefing Wednesday, city officials said the closure will affect buses operating between Laurier and Lees stations and force the temporary closure of the Campus Transitway station.The shut-down is part of a series of closures to allow crews to convert the bus-only road to light rail, which is set begin operating in 2018.

The Rideau Canal Skateway's south end improved to officially fair ice by Wednesday morning.That's the section on and near Dow's Lake.
It's still rated poor from the north end down to Bank Street, and is closed from Bank Street to Bronson Avenue. Still, it means that 7.4 kilometres are open.

More than a year after proposing that a new Civic hospital be built on 60 acres of the historic Central Experimental Farm, The Ottawa Hospital now says it is reviewing other options.
In a statement to Postmedia on Tuesday, CEO Jack Kitts acknowledged the hospital is reviewing its choice of location for a new super hospital and looking at other potential sites.

TORONTO -- Ontario is offering additional incentives to people who buy electric cars, up to a maximum of $14,000.
Current incentives range from $5,000 to $8,500 and the Liberal government announced today that is increasing to a range of $6,000 to $10,000.
Drivers could also get another $3,000 if their vehicle has a larger battery capacity and another $1,000 if the vehicle has five or more seats.

A well-travelled yet unofficial dirt path through St. Paul’s Park in Overbrook is set to get some tender loving care from Tobi Nussbaum.
The Rideau-Rockcliffe councillor is looking to fund the construction of a new multi-use path through the park to replace a muddy walkway that has formed organically over the years.
“It’s about connectivity,” he told Metroland Media in an interview.

The City of Ottawa is preparing for the most significant closure of the Transitway this spring as it forges ahead with LRT construction.
All stations between Laurier and Lees will be affected by the closure, which will come into effect April 24th, sending most buses onto Nicholas.
Routes 85, 95 and 98 will use King Edward Avenue and Laurier Avenue to ensure good service is maintained to Sandy Hill and the University of Ottawa.

The City of Ottawa was shut out of new federal funding for sustainable projects announced Wednesday, but that doesn’t mean the city won’t see the benefits of the Liberal government’s green investments down the line.
Of the 20 projects receiving $31.5 million in grants and loans from the Green Municipal Fund, announced Wednesday by Environment Minister and Ottawa Centre MP Catherine McKenna, none are in the National Capital Region.

Heritage site needs better bridge
Re: City straightens out the twists in proposed canal bridge to reduce budget risk, Feb. 6.
I lived in on The Driveway, just around the corner from Fifth Avenue, for 15 years. My children learned to skate at the Linden Terrace pond, which led to the Rideau Canal. We biked on the pathways, waved at the Queen as she passed our house during a tour in the 1970s, and brought friends and family to see the tulips, year after year.

Nearly 8,000 Canadians provided written feedback on two redevelopment proposals for LeBreton Flats during nearly two weeks of public consultations that ended at midnight Monday.
The National Capital Commission disclosed the final tally in a news release Tuesday. In all, 7,939 Canadians responded to an online questionnaire posted by the NCC between Jan. 26 and Feb. 8.
