The city of Gatineau has advised the residents of the Hull sector to boil tapwater for at least a minute before drinking it or using it to brush their teeth.
The city gave no reason for the advisory, but noted tapwater may “appear discoloured.”

You'd better start reading up on Ottawa's new crosswalk rules, or risk earning the city's first ticket for blowing through them.
City staff plan to open Ottawa's first “pedestrian crossover” on June 13 (although we don't know where yet).
Forty-three others should follow in quick succession this summer, mostly on low-speed roads and single-lane roundabouts. Staff are also retrofitting existing crosswalks that "aren't working," said traffic management lead Greg Kent.
Different from a regular crosswalk, these PXOs give total right of way to pedestrians, with no exceptions.

Cyclists and pedestrians will crowd crosswalks near Billings Bridge a little longer.
Capital Coun. David Chernushenko says a much-awaited cycling underpass is in limbo at Bank Street and Riverside Drive south of the Rideau River because of budget hold-ups at the National Capital Commission.
The city and the NCC had agreed to split the cost of the project last spring.

Friday through Sunday represented Ottawa's first heatwave in May in over 100 years.
The city hasn't seen three days in a row with highs over 32°C in May since 1911. The peak of the heatwave came on the final day, Sunday, when the temperature reached a high of 33.2°C.

Some 25,000 Hull residents are being asked to conserve water Tuesday night.
The City of Gatineau will be replacing two water main valves starting at 9 p.m. and is asking residents in Hull not to do laundry, take a bath, shower or run the dishwasher from then until the work is complete.
Work is slated to finish Wednesday and there will be a precautionary boil water advisory in place for Hull starting at 5 a.m.

The Carlington Hill bike park proposal received the thumbs up from about 70 per cent of the community association’s members in attendance for the May 25 annual general meeting.
The bike park proposal, brought forward by the Ottawa Mountain Bike Association, includes several phases. The first phase, which was approved by the community, includes a track to be built on the ledge between the reservoir and the top of the main slope, towards the western half of the space. The track will include dirt hills, jumps and or berms with some obstacles made of wood.

Opponents lobbying against a playground planned for Mooney's Bay say they will file an injunction to bring construction on the picturesque property to a halt.
Former city councillor Karin Howard told CTV Ottawa that she hopes the injunction will be filed before construction crews start removing top soil at Mooney's Bay on Wednesday.
"The deal didn't bother to talk to the public about such a significant park and about what other ideas people might want to contribute, " Howard says.

The city won’t release the results of a long-awaited study into the feasibility of building a truck tunnel underneath King Edward Avenue until September — months after the findings were supposed to be presented to the transportation committee.
Council voted last July to make the $750,000 tunnel study a term-of-council priority to be completed by March 31, the end of the city’s first quarter.

A crash in Orleans early Sunday morning happened in the same area where traffic calming measures are planned for this summer.
The crash on Viseneau Drive at Bromont Way sent an 18-year-old woman to hospital in critical condition.
Innes Ward councillor Jody Mitic was upset about the crash but not surprised that it had happened in that neighbourhood.
A traffic study for Viseneau Drive was started when former councillor Rainer Bloess was still in power and after a long process it was found that speed control measures were needed.

Despite the heat, dedicated residents camped out in grass at Mooney’s Bay on May 27 to protest a mega park proposed by Sinking Ship Entertainment.
The $2-million, 4,600-square-metre playground will be in place for the country’s 150th birthday and will be designed to emulate a map of Canada with 10 mini parks representing the provinces.

Ottawa Boat Cruise won that long term contract from Parks Canada, replacing Paul's Paul's Boat Lines which had run boat tours on the Rideau Canal in Ottawa from 1949 until 2014
