A city project to reduce the number of mosquitoes in the West End appears to have been successful according to one city councillor.

An abandoned restaurant on the east side of the Rideau Canal is set to re-open this weekend. The waterfront bistro near the University of Ottawa sat empty for all of last summer, but new owners are hoping to resurrect the patio.

When the restaurant formerly known as 8 Locks Flat opened as part of an National Capital Commission (NCC) pilot project, the goal was to bring more attractions and more visitors to the shoreline. Failed lease negotiations in 2014 mean the restaurant has been sitting vacant since.
