(...)Time to put Stage 2 LRT on hold
.../ believe that work on LRT Stage 2 should be put on hold until the problems with Stage 1 are sorted out. Since the same builder is involved in both, it is not unreasonable to assume Stage 2 will not fare any better.
The Stage 2 contract was signed in a hurry due to fear-mongering by Mayor Jim Watson that the cost would escalate if the contract was not signed post-haste. Shame on the councillors who did not stick to their principles but who capitulated and signed.
(...)The mayor needs to take LRT every day
The mayor lives in Bay ward (which is also my ward). In order for him to get a boots-on-the-ground viewpoint of public transit in the capital, I have an easy challenge: Take public transit fives times a week during the a.m. and p.m. hours for a month.
Public transit has lots of space, so he can still do all his important tasks while travelling. I hear that the rollout of support straps is coming along nicely – just in case he has to stand.
