Agreed that medians are often a mess, ugly and unkempt. This can be extended, in my opinion, to most stoplights where there are not only weeds, but discarded garbage and cigarette butts galore which keep anything but weeds from growing. In some areas of the U.S., swaths of wildflowers are planted. They can look amazing, reseed themselves each year and require very little, if any, upkeep. One city had planted its medians with cosmos. They are colourful, bloom all summer, once again reseed themselves, are hardy, and love the sun.
