Ottawa Public Health has confirmed the first human case of West Nile virus (WNV) in Ottawa. The virus has been found in the northern house mosquito, an insect that likes to live and breed around humans, and one that has been discovered in urbanized areas of Ottawa.
Ottawa Public Health said it has a proactive plan to deal with WNV through weekly surveillance and man-made standing water sites located on city property, such as ditches and stormwater management ponds.
