WASHINGTON – On the day Catherine McKenna blew into a storm-tossed Washington, scientists reported that two-thirds of the Great Barrier Reef off Australia is dead or dying.
On the same day, the National Park Service reported that the piercing cold in the usually balmy capital – which made our minister of the environment and climate change, who had just been winter camping in Quebec with her children, grateful she had brought along her full-length down-filled coat – had killed half the Japanese cherry blossoms on the trees around the Tidal Basin.
