The people have spoken, and they don’t want pipelines.
On Monday, protesters effectively disrupted a hearing in Montreal related to the Energy East Pipeline. The pipeline, which would transport crude oil from Alberta to Saint John, N.B., has come under fire from some First Nations groups, multiple municipalities in Quebec and environmental groups. Their primary criticism is that the pipeline would threaten the water supply for more than five million Canadians, by traversing through or under more than 3,000 lakes, rivers and streams. These are sources of clean drinking water, and even one oil spill could put local communities at risk.http://ottawacitizen.com/opinion/columnists/ashby-pipelines-like-energy-east-arent-popular-for-very-good-reason
