The son of a much-loved former teacher in Almonte says he's upset municipal leaders are considering the "disrespectful" move of selling the park named after his late father.

The municipality of Mississippi Mills — which includes Almonte — may sell Don Maynard Park so it can free up cash to pay for a new splash pad, skate park and play structure at the larger Gemmill Park in the centre of town.

More than 350 people have signed a petition calling on the town to reconsider the idea, however, and dozens are expected to show up at a town hall meeting Tuesday night to debate the future of the two acres of green space.
