Analysis missing in Ottawa’s LRT plans

Autonomous vehicles and driverless taxis will be available starting about 2020. The technology has moved amazingly fast over the last few years in parallel with the final planning and initial construction of Stage 1 of the Ottawa LRT.

A major result of autonomous vehicles will be the introduction of driverless taxis that will disrupt both the taxi and transit businesses. Driverless taxis are “personalized mass transit.” They reflect the trend to point-to-point, on-demand service with flexible routing, rather than traditional transit, which is multi-mode, fixed-route and fixed-schedule.
