The City of Ottawa spent at least $12 million to recreate a section of west Wellington Street, with full rebuilds underground, interlock sidewalks, traffic calming, whimsical public art, flower boxes and matching metal furnishings. And, with all this dressing up, a cycling nightmare. With wider walkways, parking on both sides, two driving lanes, there is simply nowhere for the bicycles to take refuge.
