It’s official: Main Street is going green. Although the pastoral Oblate lands
along the Rideau River are facing massive change, developer The Regional Group
and builder eQ Homes announced Tuesday that the mixed-use community planned for
the 26-acre site just south of the Queensway, which has been touted as a green
project from the beginning, will be seeking LEED-ND certification. That means it
will include such things as extra-wide, tree-lined avenues, an emphasis on bike
paths and storage, integrated transit stops, a public plaza, green space along
the river, homes that are at least Energy Star-rated, varied housing options and
a mix of commercial and retail space. via
