Senior bureaucrats worried last year that removing green requirements for
infrastructure projects that wanted federal funds would “negatively impact
Canada’s ability to adapt to climate change,” according to recently released
documents. The possibility that environmental requirements would no longer apply
to projects looking for grants from the federal gas tax and Building Canada had
officials at Public Safety Canada suggesting cabinet be lobbied to not ditch the
green criteria and cement that decision in the upcoming federal budget. via
