The Rideau Canal Skateway opened Saturday morning, just in time to celebrate the
200th birthday of Canada’s first prime minister. The National Capital
Commission, whose workers were out all night Friday checking conditions and
grooming the ice, opened a 3.6-kilometre section from Somerset Street to the
Bank Street Bridge, not including Patterson Creek. That’s almost half of the
Skateway’s 7.8-kilometre length. via
