Re: LeBreton Flats: Imagining what Ottawa’s prime real estate could look like, Sept. 12. Is it really true? After all the fuming and hubbub over so many years about what to do with LeBreton Flats, is the National Capital Commission actually considering transforming the ugly duckling into a swan? What a novel idea. The plan as designed by artist Andrew King, although only a possibility, offers a plethora of people pleasing ideas. When Lansdowne Park was under renovation, the question of what to do with the historically sensitive Horticultural building was uppermost. At that time I submitted a suggestion to the Citizen’s Letters to the Editor that it should be considered as a butterfly compound and botanical gardens, which have proven so environmentally friendly and popular in the United States. The Desert Botanical Gardens in suburban Phoenix Arizona as well as the Butterfly House in Niagara Falls were well attended during our visit and the children as well as adults were taken by the beauty of the butterflies and their botanical surroundings. via Letter: Transform LeBreton Flats into a quiet refuge | Ottawa Citizen.
