Aiming to reduce deaths and injuries on Ontario’s streets, Ottawa Centre MPP
Yasir Naqvi wants the provincial government to reduce Ontario’s default speed
limit to 40 km/h from 50. That’s the limit that applies on streets that don’t
have signs saying otherwise, including most residential streets off main roads.
It’s spelled out in the province’s Highway Traffic Act, which Naqvi wants to
amend. Since he’s the minister of community safety, he’ll probably get what he
wants, though he’ll have to talk the rest of cabinet into it. via
