The city's public works department wants to spend $40 million over four years on
energy-saving retrofits. The bulk of the money would be spent on changing 67,000
streetlights to LED technology at a cost of $8 million annually. When the full
installation is done the city would save $5.3 million annually in energy and
maintenance costs, according to a report published Thursday for council's
environment committee. via
