Ottawa city council grapples over new 'high-performance' standards for new home builds, adding to their cost

The new standards, which the city can require under its Ontario Planning Act powers through site plans and plans of subdivisions, are meant to make developments more sustainable and environmentally sensitive.

Ottawa city council approved new development standards on Wednesday after a debate that had some members voicing concerns about the municipal government worsening the sticker shock of buying a new home in Ottawa.
